Gustav Klimt: The Sunflower 1907

In front of the flowery pearl-drapes stands the sunflower with its big leaf-hands, caressingly wrapping the fine bush. In ways, the sunflower head’s position reminds the viewers of Klimt’s famous Kiss painting, how the man bends his head to kiss the woman. They were intended to be together, the two paintings, and were exhibited in 1908 in Vienna, at the famous “Kunstschau” exhibition. It is like the other painting’s symbolic version thus saving the kiss for eternity.
